Dr. DiSiena reminded us all that inflammation can easily lead to chronic illness. While we hear a lot about joint inflammation, brain inflammation is actually more common than we think it is. Brain inflammation can be caused by either trauma (such as a car accident) or something as simple as our diets.
In fact, Dr. DiSiena told us that his team regularly sees people with mood disorders caused by brain inflammation. Brain inflammation doesn’t cause pain necessarily, but it can cause mood disorders, anxiety, depression, OCD, and ADD. All of those major disorders can simply be caused by a brain that is inflamed.
To help fight brain inflammation, Dr. DiSiena encourages everyone to watch the foods they put into their bodies. Highly inflammatory food like bad fats (which are regularly found in fast food meals) tend to cause an imbalance of fatty acids which, in turn, increases systemic inflammation. This inflammation can lead to many physical issues on top of the mental disorders already mentioned.
